Community Activity

Stories From The Pandemic, supported a wide range of activities to take place across the city which enable many communities to come together, reflect on their experiences from the pandemic and engage in memorial activity together.

 

Compassionate Sheffield, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, awarded over 50 small grants to a wide range community groups and organisations in Sheffield under its Covid-19 Community Memorial Fund.

'Give us a GIF' - DINA

Sheffield arts venue, DINA, projected a patchwork of ‘lockdown’ GIFs, sent to them by members of the public, onto their venue in Fitzalan Square.

‘Help Each Other!’ - Stand and Be Counted

Stand and Be Counted’s Youth Theatre of Sanctuary co-created a short film called ‘Help Each Other!’ exploring everything they learned and lived through the Covid-19 pandemic.

SADACCA COVID-19 Day of Reflection

SADACCA held a Covid-19 Day of Reflection which featured keynote speeches, talks, presentations, and an art / photography exhibition, and gave local community members the time to reflect, connect and support one another.

Emmaus Sheffield

Emmaus Sheffield worked with their Companions to build a memorial bench for the courtyard garden area, creating a quiet space for staff, Companions and customers to reflect on the changes that happened during the pandemic, the losses experienced, and those who worked tirelessly throughout.

Together Women facilitated the creation of community artwork to be displayed at their Sheffield centre, made up of contributions from women across the city.

Memory Poem Boulder – SRSB

Memory Poem Boulder – SRSB

Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) created a ‘Memory Poem Boulder’ at the new sensory and heritage garden developed as part of the Rose Garden at Graves Park. The poem was written by the Mappin Street Writers, a visually impaired creative writing group.

SACMHA Health & Social Care

SACMHA Health & Social Care

SACMHA hosted a memorial service, focussed on the African Caribbean community of Sheffield to acknowledge the impact and losses the community experienced.
