Community Activity

Stories From The Pandemic, supported a wide range of activities to take place across the city which enable many communities to come together, reflect on their experiences from the pandemic and engage in memorial activity together.

 

Compassionate Sheffield, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, awarded over 50 small grants to a wide range community groups and organisations in Sheffield under its Covid-19 Community Memorial Fund.

'Give us a GIF' - DINA

Sheffield arts venue, DINA, projected a patchwork of ‘lockdown’ GIFs, sent to them by members of the public, onto their venue in Fitzalan Square.

‘Help Each Other!’ - Stand and Be Counted

Stand and Be Counted’s Youth Theatre of Sanctuary co-created a short film called ‘Help Each Other!’ exploring everything they learned and lived through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Burncross Action Team replaced three benches in the Acorn Recreation Area, with plaques, as a memorial to residents who have been affected by Covid-19.

Sharing the View: Philosophy for Communities with Rosie Carnall

In partnership with Sheffield Museums, Rosie Carnall, a Sheffield-based creative facilitator, ran creative activity sessions for staff from hospitals and community groups, encouraging reflection and the sharing of experiences.

Project Intake hosted a community event to present ‘Pandemic Stories’ from their community and asked attendees to bring their own stories, poems and pictures. The group have also installed a ‘Talking Bench’ in Hollinsend Park, with an inscription encouraging people to sit, reflect and talk to each other.

Never to be Forgotten - Longley 4 Greens

Longley 4 Greens Community Centre’s ‘Never to be Forgotten’ project created a safe space for people to come and share their memories and stories around Covid-19.

Chapeltown Park Covid Monument

Chapeltown Park Covid Monument

Friends of Chapeltown Park and Chapeltown Parish Council were involved in creating a Covid monument for Chapeltown Park, with Andrew Vickers from Stoneface Creative. The monument honours all those who died with the virus in Chapeltown, Burncross, Thorncliffe, Ecclesfield, High Green and Grenoside.

Winn Gardens Creative Cafe explored and recorded the feelings, experiences and stories of Covid-19 within their community, through a variety of arm forms.
