Community Activity

Stories From The Pandemic, supported a wide range of activities to take place across the city which enable many communities to come together, reflect on their experiences from the pandemic and engage in memorial activity together.

 

Compassionate Sheffield, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, awarded over 50 small grants to a wide range community groups and organisations in Sheffield under its Covid-19 Community Memorial Fund.

'Give us a GIF' - DINA

Sheffield arts venue, DINA, projected a patchwork of ‘lockdown’ GIFs, sent to them by members of the public, onto their venue in Fitzalan Square.

Amazelab has run workshops for children creating sun catchers and using them as a reflection tool

‘Help Each Other!’ - Stand and Be Counted

Stand and Be Counted’s Youth Theatre of Sanctuary co-created a short film called ‘Help Each Other!’ exploring everything they learned and lived through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Out of the Box Training

Out of the Box developed a COVID pandemic story with community leaders in Sheffield and trained and supported them to run storytelling sessions.

Steel City Choristers ‘Lament’ service was a choral performance with art exhibitions, offering a reflective space in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic.

Sheffield Futures

Sheffield Futures

Sheffield Futures hosted a Community Remembrance Day, bringing together individuals and families of all ages in the wider Page Hall community to reflect upon the pandemic, 3 years since its beginning.

Mixing Roots - Hive South Yorkshire

Mixing Roots - Hive South Yorkshire

Mixing Roots is a grassroots project run through Hive South Yorkshire. For this project, Mixing Roots ran a reflective creative writing and discussion workshop programme for girls and young women of colour (aged 14 to 21) to talk, share and write about their pandemic years.

Action Collective met with individuals and groups within the African Diaspora community in Sheffield, creating safe spaces for reflection and collective healing.

Norfolk Community Primary School

Norfolk Community Primary School

Norfolk Community Primary School worked with a professional artist to create a storytelling space in the school groups complete with a piece of memorial artwork and a seating area.

Sheffield Chinese Community Centre

Sheffield Chinese Community Centre

Sheffield Chinese Community held activities and sessions for staff and volunteers where they were able to talk about their experiences during the pandemic and captured these into a memorial booklet. They also ran weekly Tai Chi classes for the community to come together through exercise.
