Community Activity

Stories From The Pandemic, supported a wide range of activities to take place across the city which enable many communities to come together, reflect on their experiences from the pandemic and engage in memorial activity together.

 

Compassionate Sheffield, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, awarded over 50 small grants to a wide range community groups and organisations in Sheffield under its Covid-19 Community Memorial Fund.

'Give us a GIF' - DINA

Sheffield arts venue, DINA, projected a patchwork of ‘lockdown’ GIFs, sent to them by members of the public, onto their venue in Fitzalan Square.

‘Help Each Other!’ - Stand and Be Counted

Stand and Be Counted’s Youth Theatre of Sanctuary co-created a short film called ‘Help Each Other!’ exploring everything they learned and lived through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Men Up North held a community grief ritual for men, held in the natural surrounds of Sheffield’s ancient woodlands.

Roshni Sheffield Asian Women’s Resource Centre

Roshni Sheffield Asian Women’s Resource Centre

Roshni Sheffield ran a 5-week art project for women from the South Asian community in Sheffield, using clay as a median to create artefacts that symbolise the women’s experiences of Covid-19.

High Green Development Trust

High Green Development Trust

High Green Development Trust collected pandemic stories, poems, videos and artworks from their community, using these to create both a display on site and a time capsule buried in their community garden. They also created an area of reflection in the garden outdoor space, planting fruit trees, and sharing their harvest amongst the community.

The Dorothy Pax

The Dorothy Pax

The Dorothy Pax held an event called ‘Memorial: Light, Love & Remembrance’, where they lit their venue up in red and yellow all evening long and took the time to reflect on those lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Walkley Ebenezer held an event ‘Time for Reflection for the COVID Pandemic’ to give people the time and space to reflect on the COVID pandemic.

Meersbrook Park URC Sewing Group met weekly to create a memorial wall hanging, translating local community experiences of Covid into a piece of artwork.
